Here's a simple coaching tool for leaders who feel trapped in reactive mode: the Futurespective.
If your days are full of “do… do… do…”, Slack fires, meetings, and urgent requests… you’re probably working hard, but not really steering. And when you finally look back, it’s often just to kick yourself for what happened — rather than shaping what happens next.
A Futurespective is basically a retrospective… from the future.
You jump forward 6–8 weeks, imagine things have gone genuinely well, and then work backwards:
- What’s now true?
- What’s stopped being a problem?
- What did you stop doing that created space?
- What did you start doing that changed the system?
- What nearly derailed you — and what did you do about it?
Then you pick one move for the next two weeks and book a check-in. That’s it. Tiny. Practical. And surprisingly powerful.
If you try it, drop a comment with the one move you’re going to make — I’m genuinely curious.
