Leadership in complex environments requires more than good intentions. It requires range, judgement and the ability to choose your stance deliberately.
In fast-moving, uncertain environments, leaders cannot rely on one default style and hope it works everywhere. Sometimes people need clarity and direction. Sometimes they need challenge. Sometimes they need coaching, space, protection, or a more strategic perspective.
The real work of leadership is knowing what is needed now, and being able to respond deliberately rather than from habit.
Using the ORGANIC leadership model, we explore the different leadership stances available for leaders, when each is useful, and where each can become overused or unhelpful.
The aim is not to turn people into a polished, one-size-fits-all “agile leader”. It is to help them become more aware, more adaptable and more intentional in how they lead, whatever their role in the organisation.
Because in agile organisations, leadership is not meant to sit at the top. It needs to show up everywhere.
