And the Product Mastery Cover Winner Is…
We have a clear winner in the recent competition to choose your favorite cover for my new book Product Mastery: From Good to Great Product Ownership. In fact, the decision was almost unanimous. The winning cover design is shown below.
I decided to write Product Mastery because product owners are crucial for an agile project’s success; yet, a huge chunk of what it takes to thrive in the product owner role has been somewhat neglected in current agile literature. As I’m sure you’ve experienced, building the right product at the right time for the right people requires a wide mix of skills. These range from “hard skills” such as prioritisation, strategy and planning to “soft skills,” such as collaboration with the development team and negotiation with project stakeholders. It’s relatively easy to find information about specific tools that help product owners create a vision, a strategy, a road-map or manage a release; it is much harder to find support for the complete set of competencies that make it possible to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment. That’s where Product Mastery comes in.
As I did in Scrum Mastery, in Product Mastery I have identified some key characteristics that great product owners have in common. I illustrate these traits through stories and analysis of what makes certain product owners more effective and successful; that is, product owners who are Decisive, Ruthless, Informed, Versatile, Empowering, and Negotiable or DRIVEN.
Between now and its launch at the start of February, I hope to introduce you to some of the characters from the stories in Product Mastery and the challenges they face as product owners. I’m sure you will relate to at least some of them!
